About the artist

Salam,

I am Mohammad Tariq, the artist behind Rang-o-Qalam — meaning “the reed pen and the colours” — a creative journey through which I seek to express faith, reflection, and beauty.

My relationship with the qalam traces back to childhood memories of writing on takhtis(wooden tablets) in madrasas, where the reed pen was among the earliest tools of learning. Yet my deeper engagement with calligraphy began years later at Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, where I pursued my degree in Civil Engineering. What started as quiet admiration gradually turned into a serious artistic interest. My subsequent academic journey — a Master’s in Political Science and preparation for civil services — led me further into the world of ideas, philosophy, and reflection, shaping the way I began to see language, structure, and meaning.

Beyond formal education, I have always felt drawn toward Islamic knowledge, literature, and poetry. The depth of Qur’anic verses, the elegance of Arabic script, and the emotional resonance of Urdu poetry became enduring sources of inspiration. Over time, the written word transformed from something I studied to something I wished to embody visually.

My journey into calligraphy painting has largely been self-driven. Through steady practice, experimentation, and learning from various online resources, I continue to refine my craft. Each work is part of an ongoing process of learning, discipline, and artistic growth.

Through Rang-o-Qalam, I create handcrafted paintings primarily featuring Qur’anic verses, reflecting themes of faith, patience, gratitude, and divine mercy. At times, I also interpret Urdu poetry through colour and composition. In addition, I design personalised Nikah and engagement calligraphy artworks, thoughtfully created as meaningful gifts and lasting keepsakes.

Every piece is composed with careful balance, layered textures, and attentive detailing — often enhanced with gold accents and subtle geometric harmony. My intention is not merely to adorn walls, but to cultivate serenity, reflection, and a gentle spiritual presence within homes and hearts.

Through colour, form, and sacred words, I continue this journey — learning, refining, and expressing devotion through art.
