The painting contains an Urdu couplet:
‘qamar’ maiñ huuñ muḳhtār tanzīm-e-shab kā
haiñ mere hī bas meñ añdhere ujāle
(O Qamar! I have command over the order of the night;
Darkness and light both lie within my control)
The artwork holds the couplet binding to the background which shows the moon(qamar) and the darkness. The light is being spread by a bonfire in the wilderness.
